Ghost Car, racing your own commute
Record your drives with GPS, then line the routes up side by side to see how they really compare.
Ghost Car records your drives, speed, distance, elevation, the whole route, and then lets you line up multiple drives to compare them. The idea came from wanting to know, honestly, whether the “shortcut” was actually faster, or whether leaving ten minutes earlier really helped at all.

The part I had the most fun building was the comparison. There are six different ways to align two drives, by where they start, where they end, where they diverge, where they converge, so the same commute on different days can be matched up fairly. It even trims the idle time at the ends, so sitting at a red light doesn’t skew the result. A good reminder that “a fair comparison” is usually a data-cleaning problem in disguise.
