Spring league: up to A Division, a point short
My second competitive season at Two Plumbers. I climbed into A Division and stayed there, then missed the playoff cutoff by a single point on a strange final night.
Last winter I played my first competitive season down in C Division. This spring I set a real goal: get into A Division and stay there. And I did, for most of the ten weeks, which I’m honestly proud of. A Division is a big jump. The players are good, and just keeping my head above water up there felt like progress.
The final night, June 3, was a fight. A whole group of us were within a point or two of the fifth and last playoff spot, and we were all playing as hard as we possibly could to grab it.
Then something strange happened. The player sitting in first place decided not to finish their matches that night. Because of the way the scoring works, those unfinished games handed a big pile of points to another player who had been sitting below the fifth-place cutoff. That bumped them up over the line, and in one move most of us who were scrapping for that last spot got pushed out entirely.
I finished 7th in A Division with 109 points, one point shy of the cutoff. It stung, and yeah, it felt a little unfair. But that’s how it goes sometimes. You don’t control the other tables. You just play your best and take what the night gives you.

What’s next
The division playoffs are tomorrow, Wednesday, June 10. I’m a little under the weather today, so I honestly don’t know yet if I’ll make it out. There’s a tiny, fractional chance I could still sneak into the A Division playoff if someone ahead of me can’t make it, but I’m not counting on it. If I’m well enough I’ll show up hoping for a good night. Sometimes they run a loser’s league for the rest of us, and I’d happily play in that too. And if I’m too sick, I’ll just rest and catch the next one.
Either way, I’ve already signed up for the summer league. Two seasons in and I’m hooked. I’m looking forward to the summer tournament, to seeing if I can hang in A Division again, and maybe, this time, grabbing one of those playoff spots.
